Why does this app require access to my camera and microphone?

The app uses your camera for fun face filters! These original (and super-cool) face filters and masks help your child remember what they’ve learned and let them take pictures of their accomplishments. In the activities, your child can see a video of themselves as they practice words. This helps them better imitate their peers featured in the interactive videos. 

The microphone access is related to the core focus of the game. First Words utilizes machine learning (ML) to assess your child’s progress. Without collecting any of your data, it listens to your child as they speak and engages with the app. Machine Learning allows the app to understand if your kiddo is enunciating correctly, and helps First Words pace the activities according to your child’s developmental level.
